3 Additional Anchors: Donations needed before April 26th

The Wilmington State Parks has contracted with Earth Treks of MD to install 2 new climbing anchors at Alapocas Run State Park. The local climbing community has an opportunity to donate funds to the park to provide for the installation of up to 3 additional climbing anchors beyond the 2 anchors that are already planned. The anchors will be installed at the Main Wall, where the other anchors are already installed.

The park has estimated that each additional anchor will cost $150 plus some amount for the installation. To fund 3 additional climbing anchors, we will need to raise around $550 to $600.

Earth Treks will be installing the new anchors on April 26 or 27. Therefore, we need to collect any donations and present them to the park prior to April 26.

If you would like to donate towards the additional anchors, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Send an e-mail to michaelh@declimbers.org indicating the amount of your donation. This will allow us to know what donations will be arriving.
  2.  Mail your donation via a check ASAP.
    1. Make the check payable to “Alapocas Run State Park”.
    2. In the memo field on the check, indicate “Donation Rock Climbing Programs”.
    3. Mail to:

Michael Hartman
200 Jackson Blvd
Wilmington, DE 19803-3719

Thanks in advance for your donation!

Rock-Wall Clean-up Alapocas

The weather finally broke so hopefully everyone will be getting outside soon. To get things started the parks department is going to have a Rock-Wall Clean-up event, thanks to Tim Spies for letting me know about it. It will take place at the Alapocas Run climbing wall April 18th from 10AM until 2PM. The parks department will provide some shovels and such but you are free to bring your own. The clean-up is to remove vegetation and dirt that have settled on the climbs. Bring water and snacks. The parks department will not provide ropes so if you want to get on ropes to clean the wall you must bring your own. Check the attched flyer for further details. Click Here! Rain date TBA.

Wilmington State Parks Volunteer Open House this week!

There are volunteering opportunities for rock wall clean-up and other activities. Definitely a good opportunity to show that we care about the area. Check out the flyer for more details click here. This event happens this Tuesday so don’t let it slip by.

Delaware Climbing Coalition Meeting

The DCC is having a general interest meeting January 4, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Please RSVP by Monday, December 28, 2009. This will give us time to reserve the proper meeting area. To RSVP please send an email to contact@declimbers.org. Since this is the first meeting in sometime we really have no itinerary. We want to see how many people are interested, exchange some contacts and expand the group. If you have ideas about what the club should be doing, this meeting will be the place to voice your opinion. We look forward to seeing all of you! (Some boulders would be great as this group may be under represented, we want to hear from you too.)

Accessfund paperwork

Hey all,
Got the paperwork in to make the DCC official with the Accessfund. I am going to follow-up and make sure everything was received in order. And I’ll post here, especially since my vertical mobility gets complicated with stairs at the moment!

New Website

The new website is a wordpress blog.  This is essentially a drag and drop application which will make it easy to update and keep track of information related to the DCC.  Currently we are testing plugins and theemes to see what will fit best with our site.  If you have any suggestions feel free to post them and we’ll see what we can do.  Thanks for visiting!
