Hello Fellow Climbers,
During meetings and emails we have mentioned non-profits and the benefits associated with becoming a non-profit. For a climbing club considering outings this is likely the best route. There were a few tasks to complete before considering creating the non-profit.

One task that remains is finding someone who would stand in as the third director. The other two who volunteered are rope climbers. To represent the bouldering community and their interests, it would be beneficial to have someone that boulders volunteer.

The greatest potential for expansion is in bouldering. Most of the roped climbs that are safe are available. Bouldering however, is not a permitted activity and we would like this to change. Currently there are new officials in the parks department and they are openminded about climbing. But they have asked us to help educate them about climbing. We need someone that can help to impress the benefits of bouldering to the parks department and help initiate the changes necessary to allow bouldering in Delaware.

We are also looking for someone that is able to meet at the DRG for accessibility reasons.

We plan to apply for the non-profit status (2 months from now [ we will have a specific date ] ). We need potential directors to volunteer by the previously mentioned date so we can proceed. Even if you do not boulder please volunteer. In the even that we are unable to find a boulderer to volunteer we will begin to evaluate rope climbers.

Only one officer is needed. I was planning to serve as the president. Michael Hartman has volunteered as the Treasurer. If someone else would like to volunteer as the Secretary and be posted officially on the non-profit registration please let us know. Please send all replys to “delawareclimbingcoalition” at good old gmail.com. Had to post email this way to avoid spam.

Thank you,

John

DCC Member

The Wilmington State Parks has contracted with Earth Treks of MD to install 2 new climbing anchors at Alapocas Run State Park. The local climbing community has an opportunity to donate funds to the park to provide for the installation of up to 3 additional climbing anchors beyond the 2 anchors that are already planned. The anchors will be installed at the Main Wall, where the other anchors are already installed.

The park has estimated that each additional anchor will cost $150 plus some amount for the installation. To fund 3 additional climbing anchors, we will need to raise around $550 to $600.

Earth Treks will be installing the new anchors on April 26 or 27. Therefore, we need to collect any donations and present them to the park prior to April 26.

If you would like to donate towards the additional anchors, here’s what you need to do:

Send an e-mail to michaelh@declimbers.org indicating the amount of your donation. This will allow us to know what donations will be arriving.

Mail your donation via a check ASAP.
1. Make the check payable to “Alapocas Run State Park”.
2. In the memo field on the check, indicate “Donation Rock Climbing Programs”.
3. Mail to:

Michael Hartman
200 Jackson Blvd
Wilmington, DE 19803-3719

Thanks in advance for your donation!
